Happy Happy Friday!
I know, shame on me. I usually don't go a full week without a post, but I guess I've been busy.
Jessica came to visit last weekend and we definitely geeked out the whoooooole time. There was talk of crafting, books, Buffy and other TV shows, and cooking. (Oh my!)
We made the most amazingly delicious Pumpkin Cranberry Bread (according to this recipe).

We also had banana nut pancakes for breakfast.... er.... lunch Saturday. That isn't really a recipe, so much as me adding mashed banana and pecans to a bisquick mix, but they were delicious anyway.
We also fiiiiiinally exchanged Christmas gifts. I made her one of my oh-so-handy crochet hook caddys.

And she made me this.

You're probably confused. It's a Tardis iPod case made from plastic canvas and yarn. There's even a little place for my earphones in the top. Don't know what a Tardis is? Go here. In any case, it's amazingly cute and I love it.
I also finished my first drawing project and turned it in this week. Now we're on to another. I'll post pictures as soon as I have a little more done.
And now I'll leave you with the funniest video ever. Somebody posted this on Facebook tonight and I almost peed my pants laughing at it.
Happy Pre-Valentine's Day!

New Semester, Same Ol' Statesboro
So, today was the first day of the new semester. I really hate the first week of class. This always happens. I always forget how much I hate the first week. We don't do anything of substance, the buses are way too crowded, and I have to spend hundreds of dollars on books and supplies. This semester will end up costing somewhere around $500 for books and supplies... mostly books. In fact, almost half of that is from just one class. My packet for Spanish (including textbook, lab manual, workbook, pocket dictionary and codes for the online course content) was $200. I spent $441 today and have to go back tomorrow to get a few drawing supplies that I don't already have. The only thing that makes it a little bit easier is that the money comes directly out of my financial aid. I'm not actually spending the money, it just means that I won't get as much back when the checks are cut. Oh well, such is life.
As far as the classes themselves, I don't think it will be too terrible of a semester. Mondays and Wednesdays are definitely my heavy days; I'm on campus from 10:30 or so till 5:30. That makes for a long day and a very tired and cranky Katie.
I'm slightly worried about my Spanish class. I haven't had any Spanish since my very first semester of college... that's been a while. My only consolation is that there are others in the class that seem to have the same trouble. I really hope I catch up soon. It brings a whole new meaning to not understanding the professor.
I leave you with the song that got me through today. I must have played it 30 times. Jenny Lewis is my hero.

Bears. Beets. Battlestar Galactica.
Okay, so this isn't that clip, but one from last week's episode. What's better than one show you love? The show you love.... making fun of another show you love. God bless The Office.

Shrinky Dinks and Bad Decisions
I'm officially obsessed with Shrinky Dinks. Don't know what Shrinky Dinks are? Look HERE.
I made these 3 pair of earrings in the last hour or so with my new favorite craft supply.
A pair for Jessica (Jess, if you're reading this, sorry to spoil the surprise... they should be in your mailbox sometime this week.) If you don't know what this is, it's the "Grr Arg" Monster, the Mutant Enemy logo. If you're still clueless, Google is your friend.

A pair for Callie, who loves leaves.

A pair for Katie, who loves Shrinky Dinks.

As for the bad decision, Chris and I went through the drive-thru at Checkers tonight and as we were waiting to get our food, I noticed the car in front of me had one of those "vanity" license plates (I hate those, but I love to read them). I quickly snapped the following picture with my phone just before they drove away.

Click on the photo to enlarge it. Now, say it out loud. Get it? See why that was a bad decision? I just keep telling myself that God put dumb people on the Earth for a reason... to amuse me.
Goodnight all.
PS, Georgia Southern lost to Appalacian State by one point today. We may have lost the game, but at least we didn't produce this steaming pile of crap. Enjoy.

"Oh My Sweet Carolina", Ryan Adams
Every few months, I "re-discover" this song. I listen to it constantly for about 3 days, then put it aside for a while. Words cannot express how much I love it.
Ryan Adams has to be one of the greatest songwriters of our time. He's also pretty badass on a harmonica.

5 Songs
For lack of anything more interesting to post, here are 5 songs I'm obsessed with right now.
(In no particular order)
BTW, Kathy Griffin is going to be at the Fox in Atlanta on Sept. 5 (next Friday). I'm dying to go.

Twenty-Two
"Twenty-two what?" you may ask. I'll tell you. Twenty-two gorgeous inches of widescreen LCD awesomeness. Oh yes, that's right, I got my brand-spankin'-new monitor today. After a long day of classes and riding the stinky buses around campus, it's just what a girl needs to come home to. What's that? You want to see pictures?

So shiny. So perfect. I can only hope I love my first child this much.

(The picture is terrible, please excuse the nasty glare.)
Compared to my laptop, Dellbert. If you think that's sad, you should see it compared to my 20" TV. That's right, my computer monitor is bigger than my TV. If that makes me a geek, then a geek I am.
My fancy new keyboard (not the pretty rainbow light-up one) and super-huge hard drive should come tomorrow or the day after.
In other news, I was sitting in the Information Technology building today, reading and waiting for my 2:00 class to start, when a guy came and sat down in the chair next to me wearing a t-shirt that read "Big Damn Heroes." Now, if you don't know what that means, then you need to watch Joss Whedon's Firefly. Here's the clip that it's from:
Anyway, shocked to see another Whedon fan, I leaned over and said "Dude, sweet shirt." That sparked a conversation about things that are awesome that nobody's ever heard of. He hadn't seen Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, and I had never heard of this girl. So I looked her up. Apparently, she's a big YouTube sensation and I can see why.
While she doesn't have a Whitney Houston or Mariah Carey voice, she's unique and very talented in a raw, un-processed kind of way. In any case, I liked her and I thought I'd share. (And dude, she plays the ukulele!) Also, she's coming to Statesboro in a couple of weeks (Sept. 12) to perform at the new Black Box Theater at the CAT (Center for Art and Theater). I think tickets are $10. Anybody wanna go?
That's all for now.

Summer > School; Input Device Envy
Woah... (she says in a Keanu Reeves-ish voice), classes start Monday. Where the hell did the summer go? I think the dryer ate it like it eats socks. Wait... I don't have a dryer. And for that matter, I don't usually wear socks.
So, let's talk about how bad I want THIS keyboard.
Honestly, it's probably just about the most awesome thing I've ever laid my eyes on. I want it. I want to have its little glowing babies. Guh...
But alas, it shall never be. The $200 price tag give me hives. (Also the fact that you have to order the number pad- that doesn't light up- separately for another $35.)
In other news, ex-roomie Jessica is coming to stay with me tomorrow night. We're planning a Whedon-athon. I've been thinking about my picks for the episodes of Buffy we'll watch for the last 3 days. Does that make me obsessed?
This will certainly be among the first chosen:
Ohh! Oooh! Also, I got my hair cut. It's rather short. Almost a bob. I'm very pleased. Much less Drain-o will have to be used on my shower drain now. (That's kinda gross, huh?)
Off to watch TV, then bed.

We've Missed You, Rose Tyler!
Warning: This post is pretty much for myself as nobody other than Chris will get it. Just know that I'm jumping with glee at my computer screen.
That is all.
That is all.

If your monster baby cries, feed it humans.
Weirdest. Commercial. Ever.
PS... the song that starts to play at the end is "Walk Like an Egyptian" and that just makes me laugh.

Oh, Robot Chicken.
This is currently my favorite thing ever. It'll probably change in like 2.5 seconds, but right now, I am totally and completely in love with this video. And Seth Green.
