Whew!

We're back from Atlanta, safe and sound. We were gone from Wednesday afternoon until about 45 minutes ago. Chris' Dad is doing SO WELL! He went through two major back surgeries and never went to the ICU! He even walked some today. We were absolutely amazed at his progress in such a short time. Thanks to everybody that kept him in your thoughts and prayers.

As for us, we're glad to be home. Lemon seems to have missed us pretty fiercely. She let me pick her up and hold her without a fight so she must have at least missed us a little. It'll be good to sleep in our own bed tonight and cook a meal in our own kitchen. I think we were getting pretty tired of sandwiches and hospital food and take-out.

As for "Today I Love," I think anybody that actually cares if I post will understand why I was a little lax the last few days.

I promise I'll keep the schedule up this week.
Starting tonight.
As soon as we get back from dinner.

Bad News, Good News

The Bad News:
(From scientificamerican.com)

A species of frog that was thought to be extinct was rediscovered after 30 years.

The Good News:

It's in Australia.

Goodnight, folks.

The Office Baby

Today, I Love...

The Office Baby!

If you missed it, I'm sure you can catch it on Hulu tomorrow. FYI, Jim diapering a cat may make you spew whatever you're drinking out of your nose.

In real-life news, Chris' Dad came through the first phase of his back surgery today with flying colors. He'll go in again tomorrow morning around 8:30 for phase two. If you'd like to keep up with updates, you can create an account at CarePages.com and check his page here.

We've been up since 5am so we're pretty tired. I'll be back tomorrow.

Lovefool

Okay, so I missed a day of "today I love." It was bound to happen at some point. But I didn't miss today. Today I love...

The Morning Benders' cover of "Lovefool" by the Cardigans.

Yesterday I shared a BAD cover, so I thought I'd share a GOOD one today.

Bur first, confession time: I had a gigantic crush on Leo during the Romeo + Juliet/ Titanic days.
I was pretty much obsessed with Romeo + Juliet... I had a gigantic poster on my closet door (and maybe a few over my bed). I watched it obsessively. I wanted nothing more than to be Claire Danes in that angel costume.
And of course, I had (and LOVED) the soundtrack.
I'm pretty sure it was in the first 5 CD's I ever owned. And I'm pretty sure it's still one of my top 10 favorite albums of all time. I still listen to it every now and then. It's that good. And if you've only ever heard one song from the soundtrack it was "Lovefool" by the Cardigans. I mean, it's a 90's classic. Well, I recently heard a cover by The Morning Benders and fell in love with the song all over again. (I even put it on my Sweethearts on Parade VDay playlist). Here's the original and the cover.

The Cardigans' original from 1996:

The Morning Benders' cover:

Tonight we're headed to Atlanta. Chris' Dad is having pretty major back surgery and we're going to be there for a few days. I'll try to post when I can.
Happy hump-day.

One Of These Things Is Not Like The Other

I subscribe to NPR's Song of the Day emails, which is... well.... hit or miss, really. I mean, I'm sure somebody likes the song every day. It's just not me. I usually find one every week that I kinda dig. And I'll be honest that I don't listen to it every day. But something about today's caught my eye and I gave it a listen.
As a gigantic fan of the original "Fight For Your Right" (a true modern classic), I thought it wouldn't hurt if somebody covered it. I was wrong. It hurt alot.

ORIGINAL:

BAD COVER:

1. is that guy wearing a skirt?
2. messing with the line "Mom, you're just jealous it's the BEAS-TIE-BOYS!" is just wroooooong.

Now I haven't listened to anything else by this band, so I can't judge their original work.... I'm sure it's lovely. But "Fight For Your Right" is one of those things that just needs to be left alone.

And now here's my second favorite Beastie song:

Back later today with something I love.

She & Him

Today, I Love...

She= Zooey Deschanel
Him= M. Ward
She + Him= beautiful music.

I've loved Zooey since I first saw her in Almost Famous. I loved her a little bit more when I saw her sing Baby It's Cold Outside in Elf. And I've loved M. Ward since the first time I heard Poison Cup. So when they released an album together (Volume One, from 2008), I scooped it up and devoured it like it was cake and ice cream. And it pretty much was... it was that sweet.

Two years later, it's finally time for Volume Two and I can't wait to hear it. If the first two singles are any indication, it will be as fabulous and V1 was.
Download the first two singles here:

Or, just listen here and here.

A Little Change

So, I've really enjoyed doing "Today I Love..." and I've done it every day for almost a month, but here's the problem: it bugs me that all the posts are labeled "Today I Love" in the archives. It makes it difficult to find specific posts. So, instead of the subject being "Today I Love," I'll tag them as "Today I Love" and make the subject more specific. I'm also thinking that a button in the sidebar that links to all the TIL posts wouldn't be a bad idea, either.

I'm going to go back in the next few days and re-name all the posts, so if anything looks a little wonky, please forgive.

be back later today.
