These Songs Are Okay!

Welcome to July! This month's mix is a little different. When I was a kid, I listed to country music almost exclusively. Until the day I heard Alanis Morissette's Ironic, I never ventured outside my little country bubble. This mix pays homage to my country roots. It's a little bit old school, with a little 90's country, and a wee bit of alt-country thrown in there. These aren't the only country songs I like, but they are among the select few. Download it HERE.

Tracklist:

Tanya Tucker - Delta Dawn
Dwight Yoakam - Little Sister
Kitty, Daisy & Lewis - Going Up the Country
Old Crow Medicine Show - Wagon Wheel
Ryan Adams - Let It Ride
Dolly Parton - Tennessee Homesick Blues
Conway Twitty & Loretta Lynn - Louisiana Woman, Mississippi Man
Garth Brooks - Callin' Baron Rouge
Sawyer Brown - Some Girls Do
Patty Griffin - Love Throws A Line
Johnny Cash & June Carter Cash - Jackson
Dolly Parton - Jolene
Reba McEntire - The Night The Lights Went Out In Georgia
Dwight Yoakam - I Sang Dixie
The Watson Twins - Darlin' Song
Billy Bragg & Wilco - Ingrid Bergman
Neko Case - Poor Ellen Smith

Listen to it before downloading below (via 8tracks):

PS.... I stayed up until almost 5am getting this thing ready (mostly because I can't put something down once I start). Show me love.
xoxo

What a crazy mix! You're a brave lassie putting Conway Twitty on the same mix as Neko Case! I love it. Over the years, I've come to embrace my inner country music fan, but there was a time that term would have offended me. I am a huge Dwight Yoakam fan, Johnny Cash goes without saying (Jackson was a nice choice) and Jolene has got to be one of the best songs ever written. I loved the post you did back over the winter with the different versions. What a nice way to start July!

I saw Conway Twitty perform at half time at a rodeo in San Antonio, Texas in 1983.

One of the best shows I have ever seen. I mean, it doesn't matter that I was 9 years old, it was awesome.

The closest that I get to country now is Neko...oh, and a little Oak Ridge Boys never hurt anybody either.

I love that many of the songs on this list are ones that I gave you in the country cd I made for you! :) I was at the VFW in Baxley last night with my friend Melissa and they played several Dwight Yoakam songs and everytime they did, I thought of you!!

Love the playlist! Most of these are already favorites and I'm sure the rest will be soon, too! Glad to hear you are a country girl at heart. :-)
