Brand New Colony
Today I love...
The Postal Service's Brand New Colony.
I've known this song for years but really heard the lyrics for the first time this morning.
We'll cut our bodies free from the tethers of this scene,
Start a brand new colony
Where everything will change,
We'll give ourselves new names, identities erased
The sun will heat the grounds
Under our bare feet in this brand new colony

Jamaica, we have a bobsled team!
In honor of the winter Olympics,
Today I love.... Cool Runnings!
I'm admitting now that I only fairly recently saw this gem of a movie for the first time. About 3 years ago, I was hanging out in my ex-roomie Kristen's room and she was telling me about how one of her life goals is to see Olympic Bobsledding in person. She sang the song from the movie (you know the one) and I was so confused. I confessed that I'd never seen Cool Runnings and she sat me down, right then and there, and made me watch it start to finish. I'm quite glad she did.

And It Was Called Yellow
Today I Loooooove...
Yellow!
Several years ago, I read an article by a woman who went into a museum that had an exhibit displaying sulfur. She described how intensely yellow it was and how the beauty of the color made her cry. At the time, I thought that was quite a silly response to a yellow rock.... but it stuck with me. I tend to remember that article when thinking about color. I'm one of those people who could spend all day in the paint aisle of Lowe's contemplating exactly which shade of magenta is the best. And I know that turquoise is Pantone's 2010 color of the year. I really love color. I hope one day I'll find the color that makes me weep like that lady in the museum.
But for today, I love yellow. Bright, sunny, lemony, almost acidic yellow. Here are some pretty yellow things:

From Old Navy. I just ordered this dress in blue for a wedding and I wish I could have it in yellow, too!
You Are My Sunshine print from EtsyOriginal Wayfarer Ray-Bans. I'd love to have a pair, but I lose sunglasses too quickly to buy any that cost over $20. And these definitely cost waaaay over $20.
Isn't this the BEST tea infuser EVER?! I know, it really is. Find it HERE.
My grandma had a rotary phone when I was a kid. I learned how to use the telephone on it. Then I had to learn all over with buttons. Ha. From Anthro.
La La Love You SparklePower poster. Who doesn't love The Pixies?
Vintage Chili Bowls found on Etsy.
Herman Chair from IKEA.
Cupcake liners from Bake It Pretty.
Yellow Chucks. Size 9, please!
And even though I'm not a huge Coldplay fan, could I really do a yellow post without this song?....

No. 1 Ladies'
Today I love...
The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency!
I just started watching the first season yesterday, but I'm already in love with it. It's a great show with fabulous characters, great acting and such wonderfully heartwarming stories! And it doesn't hurt that it is visually GORGEOUS, too. Here's the trailer for the pilot:

Gig posters made by true artists. They're all so gorgeous I had a hard time deciding which images to post, but here are a few of my favorites:

Silver Springs
Today I Love...
Silver Springs
Specifically this cover (Stacy DuPree of Eisley and Jeremy Larson):
Original (Fleetwood Mac):
Sorry for all the music lately, I've found lots of great stuff lately and just can't help but share. I promise I'll love something else soon. I'm fickle that way.

Mumford & Sons
Today I Love...
Mumford & Sons
A few weeks ago, I tweeted that I needed new music. My friend Dina replied simply, in less than 30 seconds, "Mumford & Sons." And that's about how long I had to listen before I knew I really liked what I heard.

Banana Hearts
This is the breakfast I made for Chris for Valentine's day. Pecan waffles with heart-shaped bananas and strawberries with syrup, scrambled eggs, sausage from a local market and mimosas to top it all off. We ate while we listened to sweet music coming from the record player and the cat meowing at us. It was absolutely perfect.

Vinyl
Today I love... Vinyl!
Chris and I bought a record player about a month back and have been thrifting records like crazy. It's so fun! I went to Goodwill a week ago and was lucky enough to find a copy of Johnny Cash's I Walk the Line, Glenn Miller's Greatest Hits, a Dolly Parton and Porter Wagoner album, an Elvis record with Hound Dog on it in really good condition (but without a sleeve) and a Neil Diamond with Sweet Caroline.
We went back today and found TONS more fun stuff. I even convinced the Hubs that I needed the Gregorian chants and the "Sounds of Hawaii" albums. Hey, for $0.99 each, how can he complain?
There's just something about vinyl that makes it so much more fun and interactive than with digital or even CD's. There is no fast forward or rewind, only moving the needle. You can't break an album down and make a playlist out of it. You have to listen to and appreciate the entire album. That's why today, I LOVE vinyl!

(Lemon decided she really needed to be in the picture. I couldn't agree more. )
The most expensive album we've bought was a Beach Boys at a vintage shop on St. Simons. The only new one we've bought is Jenny Lewis with the Watson Twins Rabbit Fur Coat (probably my favorite album).

Snow in the 'Boro!
It hasn't happened since 1989. It has eluded us for over 20 years. But it happened last night....... Snow in the 'Boro! I should have posted these last night, since all the lovely snow has sadly melted away now. At least I now have fond memories of our esteemed campus tucked under a beautiful blanket of white.
Sweetheart Circle with my sweetheart:
Snowball fights:
Look! I'm in Narnia! (I thought myself quite clever when I said this right before the picture was taken).....Check my Flickr stream for more pictures. I didn't want to post them allllll here.
