My 4 Favorite Things

Chris is still in Paris, so I'm still bored. You (who are reading my blog) must suffer.

These are my 4 favorite things in my living room right now... and I only paid for one of them!

1. This lamp was on my grandma's back porch for years. It's a big tension rod that goes from floor to ceiling. It's very cool. It used to be a gold(ish) color, but after a good scrubbing and a can of white spray paint, it's looking much better. And now that I've rewired the whole thing, all three of the lights work. Hooray!
Total $ spent: about $30 for spray paint and electrical stuff to rewire.

2. This is the heart that I embroidered. I blogged about it a while ago. It took a very long time. The frame came from my other Grandma's barn. Again, with the help of a little spray paint that I found under the sink in the Marvin House before I moved, it's practically brand new.
Total $ spent: $0.30 for the embroidery floss.

3. This little beauty I also got out of my Grandma's barn. He was just sitting there, all covered in dust and dirt and full of leaves and muck. Really, who wouldn't love a crazy evil-eyed owl umbrella holder? Well, most people probably wouldn't, but I did! I loved him instantly and brought him home and cleaned him in the bathtub and now he watches over my umbrellas. He's very protective that way.
Total $ spent: $0.

4. Now, this is Kong-in-a-thong. I actually did pay for this guy. But he was so totally worth it. I forgot I had him for years. He stayed in my china cabinet, just sitting there, waiting to be loved. Now he's getting the love and appreciation he deserves. I don't believe they make this particular model anymore, but I got him here: David & Goliath. All they have now is the Bear-in-Underwear version. They used to have Goat-in-a-Trenchcoat and Llama-in-Pajamas.
Total $ spent: more than I care to admit.

So there. Those are currently my 4 favorite things in my living room.

MMMMMM.... Pizza

I love pizza. I truly believe that it is the single greatest food created by mankind. It's easy, versatile, portable, and it feeds a whole group.
Here's the recipe for my favorite pizza. And hey! It's veggie friendly!

Spinach-Mushroom White Pizza

1 packaged pizza crust (any kind you like, as long as it's ready to be baked)
a jar of alfredo sauce (I like the garlic kind)
package of frozen spinach
mushrooms (I like baby 'bellas)
1 bag of shredded mozzarella cheese
salt and pepper if you like

Un-package the packaged pizza crust and pre-heat your oven according to the directions. Brush the pizza crust with olive oil. (Spraying it with cooking spray works, too). Spread about 1/4 cup alfredo sauch on the crust, top with as much of the mozz. cheese as you like, then add the mushrooms and spinach. Salt and pepper to taste. Add a little Parmesan cheese on top if you want a little something extra. Bake until the cheese starts to brown, slice and enjoy!

Pretty New Blog, Missing Chris, and New Crafts! (Oh My!)

Firstly, and most obviously, I finally gave my blog a much needed sprucing up. Much better than default settings. I may fiddle a little more, but for the most part, I think I'm happy.

Next, Chris is out of town this week. Where is he, you may ask? He's on vacation with his parents and sister... in PARIS. I know, I'm jealous too. Also, I miss him. I'm not usually the mushy type, but this is going to be the longest we've gone without talking to each other since we started dating..... 5 years ago. We've gone 3 months without seeing each other, but not talking is a whole other ballgame. We can email though... and we figured out a way to text (sort of). So, in order to help with the missing-Chris-blues, I made this page in one of my art journals. It's waaaay more scrap-bookey than I usually like, but it kept me occupied for half an hour.

Thirdly, I finished this a few weeks ago, but it took me a while to take a picture and post it.

The pattern is from HERE (I love her designs). As of right now, it's just on a piece of black fabric... I really have no idea what to do with it from here.

I think that's all for this one. Will post again soon... pinky-swear.

PS... I'm so in love with this right now. Listen to "When U Love Somebody."
" When U love somebody and bite your tongue all you get is a mouthful of blood"

It's a Process....

I'm working on making my blog prettier. Please bear with me. It may take a while.

Bad, bad, bad.

I'm a terrible blogger.

On second thought, I'm a superb blogger with nothing to blog about.

I should stop blogging to go do something to blog about later.

Away I go!

(I just used the word 'blog' 5 times in a very short blog. Make that 7.)

Dr. Horrible: It's alive!

As of today, only the first two acts are available (the third will be up on the 19th), but it's well worth a watch. But act now, as they will only be available to view for free until the 20th! They are also available on iTunes (for a fee).

But how good is it, you ask? The first act crashed the server in its first couple of hours and it's the #1 video on iTunes. And really, it's Joss Whedon, Neil Patrick Harris, and Nathan Fillion, could it be bad? I think not.

Seriously now, it is imperative to your health that you go, as fast as you can, and see Dr. Horrible. Really now, GO!

5 Pretty Buttons

I hand embroidered some buttons this week. I thought they were fun.

In case you can't tell what they are:
1. heart
2. tree
3. camera (that looks more like a front loading washing machine)
4. owl
5. leaf

The owl took around an hour. That's alot considering they're less than an inch in diameter. I'm very proud of myself.

22b: Pictures of My New Apartment

I have a new apartment. I took pictures. These are pictures. Lots of pictures. Enjoy.
(Click on any picture to enlarge!)

My front door. Oddly enough, there's no 22a.

Head to the right and there's the bedroom. The shiny thing next to my bed is my Marvin Ave. street sign that I haven't found the time (motivation) to put up yet.

From a different angle. You can see the bathroom... and my TV. I do actually have a window... I just didn't take a picture of it. It's behind me.

Better picture of the bathroom. Yes, I know... it has carpet. Eew. That will be remedied as soon as I have money to buy some of those peel-and-stick tiles. Also, it has the ugliest wallpaper known to man.... well, second ugliest. You haven't seen the kitchen yet. But hey, look at the cute jungle animals on my shower curtain.

Exit the bedroom and go through the hallway and there's the living room. Check out my awesome picture wall on the way. Yes, that is, in fact, Torso Tammy hanging amongst the pictures of my loved ones.

Walking into the living room. Check out my super-cool owl umbrella holder (bottom left) that I found in my grandma's barn.

Living room! It's the room where I do most of my living. Take note of the following:
1. My embroidered heart above the couch. That took several thousands of hours worth of work.
2. Kong in a Thong on the couch. I forgot I had him until I moved! Now he's one of my favorite things again.
3. My really awesome pillow on the couch.
4. My wall. Now I have all my favorite girls right in my living room with me. It's not creepy. It's art.
5. The greatest lamp that ever happened. It's one big tension rod... with lights on it!

View of the other side of the living room. Fun things to notice:
1. Ex-roomie Christie's old dresser as microwave cart. It's missing a handle.
2. China cabinet with picnic basket on top. How old am I again?
3. Why yes, that is an awesome Buffy OMWF poster above the tv. Thank you for noticing.
4. Really ugly bookcase. Really great books. And one of my action figures (bottom shelf). I haven't found the right place to put up the others yet.

Window. Paper lantern. Chair. Etc.

Another picture of the living room. I know, I know... nobody really cares that much.

My cave kitchen. Really. That's it. It's not a joke... well... maybe a little one.

It's about 3 feet wide... and 5 feet deep. No dishwasher. No garbage disposal. No ice maker. No real counter space. But I do enjoy telling people that I have the ugliest wallpaper ever. And you can't even see the vegetable conga line border at the top. Seriously bad. And the oven? Made during the Korean war. I'm sure of it.

And lastly, my glorious view of the self-storage units across the street. If you look carefully, you can see the tracks where the very loud train passes several times a day. And beyond that, the yellowish building is El Sombrero, the best Mexican food in the universe. Seriously prime real estate I have here.

Thanks for visiting. Ya'll come back now, ya hear?

But really, call first, 'kay?

Happy 8th of July!

Well, I missed the 4th, so Happy 8th of July! Today isn't America's birthday, but it does happen to be Kevin Bacon's birthday.... so Happy Birthday, Kevin Bacon!

We went to Jasper this weekend, which was fun.... but long. Emily got home from Spain (she brought me back the prettiest blue scarf you've ever seen). We went to a church 4th of July picnic and then church Sunday morning. There was no shortage of nice-to-meet-you's or handshakes. There was also a bit of awkwardness. But overall it was a successful weekend. I must say I'm glad to be home.... even though I still have a leaky toilet and no TV or internet. Hopefully the toilet situation will be fixed this week and the cable/internet next week.

Apologies on the continuing lack of pictures of the new apartment, but I keep forgetting. It's difficult to remember things when you're on somebody else's computer. Or if you're Katie.

I can't really think of anything else that's happened that's even remotely interesting..... so............
The end.

Movin' On Up

Well, moving at least. I wouldn't really call it "up." It's higher off the ground.... so in that sense it's "up," but not.... you know.... better.... exactly. I still don't have cable or internet (or a toilet that doesn't leak), but for all intents and purposes, I am moved in. I have pictures and stories about how bad moving sucked and I promise to post them someday soon. Maybe sometime next week.

This weekend I'm going with Chris to Jasper (where his parents just moved) to celebrate the 4th. It's going to be a long weekend with lots of driving, but it should be fun.

Please excuse the short post. I just wanted to say that I survived the move out of the Marvin House.... barely.
